A big problem with Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is the policies of the book store. There was a big lack of organization this year. It has been very hard for students to find the correct book for their classes. I had a situation this semester with finding the correct book for an anonymous class. I eventually had to go and exchange the book two times, and then had to resort to a local book store to get the true book. So in total it took 3 times to get this book because SLCC book store did not carry the book until 2 weeks into the semester. Once I investigated the issue further to make sure that I don't have this problem again, I interviewed the head of the department. She then told me that it was the teacher who did not specify which order of that book. I didn't understand what she meant till she showed me the order slip. There was 3 types of genre to the same book and the teacher didn't let the store know which it was. Also I found out that the teacher waited till last second to place an order so the store could not retrieve the correct book for the class. It was a big mess she said.
I feel like there should have been a better way to handle this situation. Not only have I not needed the book for the class, but it was more expensive. The teacher told me that it would be less. lol But the head of the department should set a deadline much in advance so organization could take place. It would be beneficial for SLCC because it would bring back more revenue to them. Most people go to the local book store down the street because they are more likely to carry the book unfortunately....
